Body Hook
The body hook is how the can’s flange will look once the double seam has completed its full formation. If the body hook is incorrect – this can lead to bad seams, bad overlap and ultimately a serious defect. Body hook can be measured indirectly after a teardown procedure, or directly through a seam inspection system by cutting or sectioning of the seam with a twin blade saw (or “bread saw”).
Possible causes for Short Body Hook:
- Low base load (seamer setup)
- High Pin Height (seamer setup)
- Incorrect Flange (too short or asymmetrical)
- Incorrect 1st or 2nd operation setup
Possible causes for Long Body Hook:
- High Base Load
- Low Pin Height (seamer setup)
- Incorrect Flange (too long or asymmetrical)
- Incorrect 1st or 2nd operation setup
