Cracked (broken) chuck
Chucks are a critical part of the seaming process.
A cracked chuck can come in two varieties:
- Eroded chuck– typically caused by incorrect seamer setup that caused one of the rolls to touch the chuck. Over time, this type of erosion will crack the chuck in a uniform manner. Typically this will cause defects such as sharp seams.
- Cracked (broken) chucks will typically leave a mark on the seam:
