Springback
In some cases, springback (or a sprung seam) is created when too much pressure is applied on the 2nd operation. This occurs more in Aluminum beverage cans and can appear as if the seam thickness is too high (Loose seam) but wrinkle rating is low. In these cases, if the 2nd operation is tightened, it can actually make things worse.
Possible causes of Springback:
- Typically this is caused by too much pressure on the seam, which causes it to spring or bounce back. The solution in this case is to loosen the 2nd operation roll, thereby reducing the pressure on the seam. Please refer to the article on how to set up the seamer.
